Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has been observed in China. Although western pharmacological agents are commonly used for the condition in Asia, the traditional viewpoint is that ADHD is caused by a Kidney essence deficiency that affects brain development. The yin aspect is most deficient leading to excessive expression of yang which manifests as hyperactivity and wandering of the mind. It may be treated by nourishing Kidney yin, opening the Heart orifices which are the passages that affect brain function and settling the agitated yang. Several studies with herbal agents to accomplish these goals have had up to 93% cure rate within two month periods (Dharmanandada, 1996b). Long term efficacy is yet to be established. please click to return to the table of contents Copyright © 1998 Ilanit Tof, All Rights Reserved. |
